Good news from Gwenda

Date: 25 Jun 2026

Just under ten years ago Haja, a disabled mother and her four children (2 sets of twins of 14 years and 16 years) were rescued by the UN from Cairo after escaping war-torn Khartoum. They arrived in London and were placed in Lambeth. They were brought to All Saints in the Spring of 2018 and many church members contributed money for a few extras for them, and subsequently others donated laptops and printers.

Gwenda has maintained contact and friendship with them over the years and they have done amazingly well: Leen is studying medicine at Plymouth; Leem has just graduated in Biomedical Science at Middlesex University and is waiting for her grade which will be a 1st or 2:1; Ahmed has graduated from Manchester in Cyber Security and Reem has just completed her second year in Forensic Investigation in Canterbury.

They have done brilliantly well. When they arrived in the UK they only spoke Arabic, and have had a difficult journey at times, including the COVID pandemic which was exceptionally challenging for refugee families.
